Product Designer
Design software that has to work at speed, in bad light, on a busy counter, for someone who was trained on it this morning.
- Melville, New York · Hybrid
- Full-time
What the work is
Interface and interaction design across our products, with most of the weight on Pacific POS. The constraints are the interesting part: a point of sale is used at speed by people under pressure, often on a touchscreen in poor light, frequently by somebody in their first week. Elegance that costs a tap is not elegance here.
You will work close to the engineers building it and close to the sites running it. Design decisions on this product get tested by real service within weeks, which is a rare and slightly unforgiving privilege.
What we look for
A portfolio of software people actually use, with your account of the constraints you were designing against. Comfort designing systems — components, states and rules — rather than screens.
An interest in operational software specifically. This is not consumer work and it is not brand work.
How to apply
Send your portfolio and pick one piece to walk us through: what the constraint was, what you tried, and what it looks like in production now.
Apply for this role
Write to us with what you have built and what you would want to work on here. We read everything and reply either way.
